How Zoom Teeth Whitening Works
Zoom is a bleaching process widely used throughout the country and around the world to lighten discoloration of enamel and dentin. The Zoom in-office tooth whitening procedure uses the Zoom Advanced Power Chairside Lamp, which is designed to accelerate the bleaching process by activating the hydrogen peroxide whitening gel. As the hydrogen peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin to bleach the stained substances, leaving the structure of the tooth completely unchanged.
Before your whitening session, the dentist will conduct a comprehensive examination of your teeth and gums to ensure they are in proper health. We will also talk with you about your oral hygiene and lifestyle habits to determine whether you will benefit most from the treatment and to set realistic expectations for your results.
What to Expect During Your Appointment
- Duration: The complete Zoom whitening procedure takes about an hour and a half, roughly the same time as watching a short movie.
- Pre-Treatment Cleaning: A regular teeth cleaning is recommended before your whitening session to ensure optimal results.
- Application of Whitening Gel: The dentist or dental assistant applies the Zoom hydrogen peroxide whitening gel, which works with the Zoom lamp to penetrate the teeth and break up stains and discoloration.
- Light Activation Sessions: The gel is applied in three 15-minute sessions of light activation, totaling approximately two hours of treatment time.
- Comfort Level: Most patients experience little to no discomfort during the procedure.
- Post-Treatment Sensitivity: Some sensitivity may occur in the hours following treatment, but this is temporary and typically resolves quickly.
- Aftercare Guidance: Our team provides instructions to help you maintain your whitening results for as long as possible.
